Kershaw Military Knife September 9, 2010 Oldmanriver This is a nice utility knife. I keep it attached to the outside of my edc bag. The sheath works great for attaching to molle webbing. The various straps that can be used to attach it to various positions of the body, not so much. It came very sharp and I use it all the time. If you have large hands the grip may be a bit narrow. The grip itself is insteresting as it seems to be all metal. It is not slick even when wet. I have not yet had to sharpen it but it seems to be retaining its edge very well. The blade is a bit narrow where the false edge is but have not had any problems due to this. Its a very well made knife and for the price its hard to beat.
Military knife? Yeah right. August 24, 2010 Bob The knife might be made with German steel, but it is MADE IN CHINA. And yes there is something wrong with that when it isn't mentioned as prominently as the origin of the steel.
The knife itself is no more a military knife than I am a military genius. (And I am NOT) At best, this is a boot knife, or hide out knife. A fighting knife of absolute last resort.
The blade is about 4 1/2" long, by about 7/8" tall, and about 1/8" wide at its thickest. The vast majority of the blade runs around 1/16" though. The total length of the knife is about 9". The grip is about 3/4" tall by 1/2" wide.
The blade was obviously designed with stabbing as its main function. Yes, it has a sharp edge that would cut the heck out of you - but, look at it. It was designed to stab. Even the false edge on the top of the blade tells you that. It is in the dagger family, rather than the Bowie family.
The handle was just as obviously designed for concealment. Yes, you can hold it by the handle, but once you do, you will understand that it wasn't designed for the human hand in a combat situation. The grip/handle is small. The scales fit perfectly as another reviewer noted. Nice work that. The problem I have, is that the scales and metal of the grip to which they are attached are too slick. I mean there is very little friction when grabbing it. I can't imagine that any military would want grips that you couldn't hold when they got wet with water or other things. The good news is that there is nothing on the knife that is going to hang up on clothing. Again, it seems to have been made for concealment rather than any military purpose.
Having said all of that, I can't help liking this little knife. Yeah, it is about useless, but it has a high "looks cool" quotient. I have to think that a little file work on the grip/handle/scales area would really help this little knife, and it was cheap enough for me to try. I mean, if I mess it up, it is only a little over 30 bucks.
nice knife July 15, 2010 rubadub very well made knife, the handel is a little small for my hands but i like it and it got here fast
Nice Little Knife June 23, 2010 DMW (Oregon USA) Knife came yesterday from Amazon. I was attracted by the moly/vanadium composition of the stainless steel, not crappy 440. It appears to be very sturdy, and sharp. I will give it a better edge. The handle is very smooth, and I'll probably put a rubber sleeve over it to improve the grip. Should be a great knife to throw in with the camping/hunting gear for cleaning fish, etc. Not bothered by the "China" insignia, steel is steel.
I was suprised! May 28, 2010 Crash Rescue (Serving overseas) I am a knife nut. It's no big secret among my friends. I have spent three times as much money on much worse knives. The knife is one solid piece of steel except for the handles which are inset and pinned. The sheath is a bad design, but you can get a kydex one made easily enough from many custom knife makes for less than $20. I will have this knife for along time.
